URGENT - ACTION REQUIRED: Passkey Activation
Passkey Activation Is Mandatory by August 31, 2026
The SFC has issued a circular requiring large internet brokers, including Interactive Brokers, to enforce phishing-resistant authentication for all logins to client accounts.
To comply with this requirement, we are in the process of rolling out Passkey authentication for all access to client accounts, including trading. This means that we will need you to replace your current method of 2FA with Passkey. Switching to Passkey is simple and will result in more effective protection against phishing attacks.
You can immediately enroll in Passkey via the security section under the IBKR Client Portal, or enroll through the pop-up message that will appear when you log in to one of our IBKR trading apps or the Client Portal. We have included a video that explains the sign up process.
We are required to restrict your account access by August 31, 2026, if you have not activated Passkey. You will be able to close existing positions and withdraw funds but will not be able to open new positions or create new withdrawal instructions.
